What just happened?

Even under the best circumstances, the transition to parenthood can be surprising.

And for many new parents there are unexpected hurdles along the way. NICU stays, colic, difficulty nursing, pressure from family, birth trauma and so much more. Getting professional help to navigate all of this is essential to the well-being of you and your family.

“While many women experience some mild mood changes during or after the birth of a child, 15 to 20% of women experience more significant symptoms of depression or anxiety.” (Postpartum Support International) Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) are not talked about as much as they should be. “You are not alone. It is not your fault. With help, you will get better.” - Postpartum Support International

You may find that the one appointment at your OB/GYN office 6 weeks postpartum just isn’t enough. It shouldn’t be. Normalizing and talking about ALL of the emotions that come with motherhood can be a lifesaving tool for new moms.

Loss during this time is also unfortunately common. Approximately 10-20% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage. Stillbirth occurs in 1 in 160 births. Grieving your baby at any time are certainly not what you expected or what you planned for. You deserve space and support to grieve and validation for everything you are feeling. Individuals and couples are welcome to reach out.

We must do better as a society: in 2021 the maternal mortality rate for black women was 3 times higher than that of their white counterparts. This is due to institutional and systemic racism.

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.”
